Songs of Joy

April 26, 2012 by allisonbenotafraid

Just in case I haven’t already told you in person or through some other form of social media, Mike and I found out yesterday that there has been no increase in activity in the mass that remains (and may always remain) in my chest! This means that the present activity is almost certainly not cancer, but rather inflamation and/or thymic rebound. Thus, there is no need for radiation, and the chest pain I’ve been feeling is just scar tissue. Hallelujah!! […]

Normal: The Story of a Mammogram

April 20, 2012 by allisonbenotafraid

I dressed up a little today – a new shirt with my jeans and my flashy orange shoes given to me by a much more stylish friend. It only seemed right to look nice as I headed off to be groped by a stranger (and a machine) bright and early. I’ve never had a mammogram, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I did expect it to hurt – I’d heard all about the squeezing and squishing, and since […]

Someday Soon, We’ll Be in Spring…(A Love Letter)

April 17, 2012 by allisonbenotafraid

It’s almost one in the morning on a Monday night, and my husband is working on a brief at the kitchen table. I’m trying to stay up to keep him company. Even though we’re not talking, I know he appreciates my presence, my show of solidarity. Hail Holy Queen

A Heart Like Mary

April 6, 2012 by allisonbenotafraid

Last week, John Paul and I enjoyed a perfect spring day. The weather was gorgeous, the flowers were blooming, and John Paul and I were both feeling well. Memories of PET scans, surgeries, needles, PICC lines, NICU stays, and cancer seemed far away. We had a wonderful time playing in the yard, exploring a park nearby, and saying hello to the many neighbors out and about. As I took in the day, I couldn’t help but feel how quickly these […]

Seeking His Reflection

April 2, 2012 by allisonbenotafraid

I’ve been having trouble sleeping ever since my biopsy in January. What started as a reaction to pain medication mixed with an uncomfortable numbness of the left side of my chest, seems to have become a bit of a bad habit, one I’d desperately like to break. During one of my recent sleepless nights, I started looking up local retreats. I felt like God was calling me to spend time with Him — uninterrupted, quiet time, something that’s a bit […]

I'm Allison, a stay at home mom to a sweet little boy. I love days with my son, my sweet husband, beating cancer, Blessed JP II, singing at mass, Notre Dame, taking pictures, L'Arche, and white wine. Here's where I write about life. Welcome!
